Our Evolution

  1. 1987

    Representatives from PSDC, HP, Motorola and Intel held a meeting to discuss the possibility of setting up the PSDC to address the concern of insufficient skilled workforce in Penang.

  2. 1989

    PSDC was set up and registered as a society in November 1989 with Tan Bian Ee from HP Malaysia as the first Chairman of PSDC Management Council.

  3. 1991

    The Precision Machining Training Workshop was set up for hands-on training in manufacturing technology and automation.

  4. 1993

    The PSDC ventures into pre-employment training by being the first training institution to offer the BTEC Higher National Diploma course to school leavers in Malaysia.

  5. 1994

    The PSDC commences its first intake of the Basic Machining course.

  6. 1996

    The PSDC graduates the first batch of diploma-holders under the BTEC HND course.

  7. 1997

    An Advanced Manufacturing Lab is installed at the PSDC. This is Malaysia’s first fully-equipped flexible manufacturing line dedicated to training.

  8. 2001

    The PSDC is the first centre in Malaysia to be awarded MS ISO 9002 certification for BTEC HND program

  9. 2002

    The PSDC receives the prestigious BTEC Centre of Excellence Award from Edexcel International (UK)

  10. 2006

    The PSDC offers Diploma in Computer Engineering to fulfill industry demands

  11. 2011

    Eight Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering students emerged as second runner-up in the Paintball Robot category of the Malaysia University Robot Competitions

  12. 2013

    Two students received the Manchester Metropolitan University scholarship - one each from the Mechatronic Engineering and Electronic Engineering programs

  13. 2015

    The PSDC rolled out the German Dual Vocational Training (GDVT) program with 7 host companies - B Braun, Carsem, Dynacraft, Inari, Osram, Robert Bosch and Southern Steel.

  14. 2018

    The first batch of apprentices from the German Dual Vocational Training (GDVT) graduated from the program

  15. 2022

    The Industriemeister in Mechatronics, the first German Meister program introduced outside of Germany was rolled out

  16. 2025

    PSDC Academy rebranded into FutureTech Academy.
